That study, which lasted two years, concluded that regular marijuana users who also have bipolar didnt do as well long-term as people who didnt use the drug.?? Another study looked at the short-term effects of cannabis use in people with bipolar disorder  and concluded that the drug was associated with both manic and depressive symptoms. However, that study couldnt find evidence that people with bipolar were using cannabis to self-medicate on a regular basis.?? Now, none of these studies prove that cannabis is actually causing these problems in people with bipolarâ€"they just show an association between marijuana use and problems. But you should factor this information into your thinking when deciding whether or not to use cannabis. Substance Abuse Risk With Marijuana All drugs have risks and side effects, and cannabis is no exception. Substance abuse can be quite prevalent among those with bipolar disorder. People have used alcohol and drugs to try to control their systems in great numbers  and may reduce their likelihood of successful treatment of their bipolar as a result. In this case we are talking about the wonderful philosophist Socrates, a person of many beliefs and ideas. He was a man who dearly believed in justice and doing justice to others. We will examine Socrates way of thinking and his rationality towards a healthy and logical mind. College students may stay up all night â€Å"cramming† for their exams, just to find that in the morning they really don’t remember anything. That is because your brain consolidates memories at a certain point in your sleep, which causes the memory to become stable. Without sleep it’s very difficult for your brain to retain information. Poor judgment is also a possibility if you are lacking sleep. Have you ever heard anyone use the term â€Å"let me sleep on it†? It’s for good reason seeing as how lack of sleep can actually impair judgment. Poor Judgment also goes hand-in-hand with the lack of focus and attention caused by sleep deprivation. When you go without enough sleep, you become less and less alert to your surroundings, and your ability to think and process information is decreased because of your excessive sleepiness during the day. Not only can too little sleep be harmful for you, it can also be harmful to those around you. If you work in a field that requires you to be on your toes at all times, yet you re significantly sleep deprived, you are more at risk for work-related injuries. Pilots, for example are now required to get a set amount of sleep before flying. People working in the medical field, or emergency services field should also be required to get set amounts of sleep due to the fact that they are protecting the lives of others and need to make sound decisions. Automobile accidents can also be cause by sleep deprivation. Driving drowsy can produce the same hazardous effects as driving drunk, and it causes thousands of automobile accidents and fatalities every year. Sleep deprivation may also lead to risky decision-making. People who have been awake for extended periods of time can’t accurately assess risks that are associated with certain situations. Being awake for 24 hours can produce some of the same effects as a 0. 1% blood alcohol level, which would be the equivalent of having 6 glasses of wine in one hour. No wonder getting too little sleep is so dangerous. Lack of sleep leads to many mental dysfunctions, but it has repercussions on physical appearance as well. Getting too little sleep on a consistent basis will start to alter your body’s ability to metabolize glucose, which can in turn make you look significantly older than you actually are. The amount of time we spend sleeping can drastically change our appetites and the ways we think about food. This may over time lead to sudden weight gains or losses. These changes happen because of the peptides Ghrelin and Leptin sends signals to the brain to tell it that it’s satisfied, and suppresses appetite, while Ghrelin does the opposite and stimulates hunger. Not getting enough sleep often decreases levels of Leptin, and increases levels of Ghrelin which may cause changes in appetite resulting in weight changes. It is apparent that sleep deprivation can have serious effects on both physical and mental health, but how do we break the cycle of too little sleep? I believe more emphasis should be put on how important it is to get your fill of shut eye every night. How many accidents can be avoided, and how many medical conditions averted just by getting adequate sleep at night? Society needs to start putting a higher value on our sleep, and in turn we may see a rise in our productivity. Over 90 percent of the Souths adult African American population was illiterate in 1860.(Faragher, 527) Blacks access to education became a part of the meaning of freedom, to themselves, because so many Southern states had prohibited education for slaves. African Americans, in rural areas, created large amounts of wayside schools. Outside organizations, such as American Missionary Association and the Freedmens Bureau, were the main contributors of educational aid in African American communities. Most black schools were built from the ground up by African Americans, in the mid-1860s. Labor for construction was donated by blacks, and teachers room and board was offered by black families. African Americans want for self-improvement and education was validated by the increased spread of schools. By 1869 the Freedmens Bureau was supervising nearly 3,000 schools serving over 150,000 students throughout the South. Over half the roughly 3,300 teachers in these schools were African Americans, many of whom had been free before the Civil War.(Faragher, 527) After freedom African Americans needed some sort of social institution in which they could count on to help them. The church became this institution because the ministers, respected for their speaking and organizational skills, were among the most influential leaders. By 1877 the great majority of black southerners had withdrawn from white-dominated churches.(Faragher, 527) In 1865 approximately 40,000 black Methodists attended biracial churches, in South Carolina, but in 1877 only a few hundred remained. Some of the Protestant denominations tried to get the African Americans to join, but most African American Christians joined black Baptist or Methodist churches. The African Methodist Episcopal Church gained power over other white dominated churches, but the greatest number of freed people were drawn to the Black Baptist churches because of their structure and more emotional services. Churches became the center not only for religious life but for many other activities that defined the African American community: schools, picnics, festivals, and political meetings. (Faragher, 526) Reconstruction brought on three very important additions to the United States Constitution. The Thirteenth Amendment stated that slavery was prohibited in the United States. The Fourteenth Amendment granted national citizenship for all persons born or naturalized in the US; stated that state representation in Congress would be reduced proportionally for any state disfranchising male citizens; denied former Confederates the right to hold state or national office. The Fifteenth Amendment prohibited denial of suffrage because of race, color, or previous condition or servitude. These three amendments to the constitution brought on the beginning of freedom for African Americans, as well as provided a beginning for womens rights and suffrage. The beginning of educational institutions, the building or establishment of churches, and the Thirteenth, fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments are all very important parts of our history. These items all prove that Reconstruction was a success, or favorable and desired outcome, in many ways. Reconstruction ended a way of life, and began the building of the world we know today. .
